About us

Mackinac Island is a small island situated between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas. It boasts a rich history, much of which is preserved within its state park. Becoming a popular summer tourist destination in the late 19th century, the island is now renowned for its festivals, historic architecture, delicious fudge, and the absence of most motor vehicles. A trip to Mackinac Island is a step back in time, where the primary modes of transport are bicycles and horse-drawn carriages. Access to the island is exclusively by ferry boat or plane. Mackinac Island sits in Lake Huron, near the Straits of Mackinac, a passage connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Approximately 80% of the island is Mackinac Island State Park.
